How FSP Delivered $200,000 Worth of Security Coverage at Half-Price

The Problem

At one Ontario manufacturing plant, a Tier 1 automotive supplier was operating with insufficient on-floor camera coverage. System gaps were creating real regulatory and safety exposure: WSIB claims and active floor liability if a workplace incident occurred without footage capturing it. The plant ran multiple active production lines, but this just complicated the retrofit. Now, any assessment had to happen around an operating facility, versus an empty one.

What FSP Did

FSP started with the facility before touching a product list. Before quoting a single camera, FSP arranged multiple site visits to map the actual layout: production zones, restricted access areas, and sightlines that shift depending on how lines are configured on any given shift. That site work produced the full design and supply scope.

The initial design topped $200,000. FSP presented it honestly: that was the right solution for full coverage of the facility. The client’s approved budget was $100,000. FSP did not cut components to meet the budget. The team redesigned the system from the ground up, prioritizing the highest-risk zones, removing redundant units through overlapping sightlines, and specifying equipment built for the plant environment. The redesign produced the same safety and compliance outcome at half the cost. Why? The site work made the tradeoffs specific versus arbitrary.

The Result

The project took 12 days and cost $100,000. The camera system covers the priority areas of the plant floor, the WSIB exposure has been addressed, and the facility now has footage documentation to support incident review as needed.
